Hair transplant: should we focus on the density obtained or the surface covered?
The answer can only be mixed. There is indeed no hard and fast rule. The surface covered must be sufficient because if it is too small, the transplant will not seem natural. The density must also be sufficient, which means that we do not look for a maximal density, but rather for the better compromise between the surface covered and the density obtained. I often answer to the patient’s classic question “Which maximal density are you able to transplant?” that the question should rather be “Which maximal quantity of hairs are you able to mobilise?”. Once this number is known, we must then respect the best balance between the density and the surface covered.
